I spoke at the NAHU Convention a week ago. Jill Pedersen wrote:

The audience of the NAHU Convention looked happy; I will be doing my recap with the NAHU representative next week and I  will let you know.   My goal is 5 speaking engagement for this one speech; keep your fingers crossed! Last year, I hit this goal for another talk that I did.

…and then I spent a few days in San Diego.

It is official; I did GREAT!

National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors

I invited Gordon and Jill Viggiano to speak to our group of about 100 financial advisors and insurance agents at our monthly luncheon meeting here in Omaha, Nebraska.

What an impactful story we heard!  We saw and heard, firsthand, how disability can strike anyone, at any time.  In Gordon’s case, this was a massive stroke that nearly killed him on his 51st birthday.  If it wasn’t for his humble income replacement coverage, the Viggiano’s would have been financially ruined.

Gordon and Jill have experienced unbelievable hardship and trials since Gordon’s stroke, but their perseverance, faith and love for one another helped them conquer these great storms.  After hearing from Gordon and Jill, everyone came away inspired and truly blessed.

Our NAIFA members were both inspired and will have a renewed passion to share the need for income replacement insurance (aka disability insurance) when doing holistic financial planning for their clients.

We had the privilege of having dinner with the Viggiano’s the night prior to our luncheon. After speaking with Gordon at dinner and hearing him at the program, it became very apparent just how much painstaking hard work went into his speech. It’s truly remarkable how far he’s come.

Gordon’s wife Jill is a true hero.  Her perspective is especially helpful because many times we are the ones helping someone else through a life changing event.  Her unyielding faith in you and God is truly inspiring, and your story needs to be told to as many people as possible!

Jill wrote a book “Painful Blessings”, discussing the struggles and the victories that she and Gordon went through, it is outstanding!  Advisors can use this book as they discuss the need for disability insurance, simply by giving it to their client to read as they ponder their decision.  Each person who attended the lunch meeting received a copy of the book.

The presentation is surprising, gripping, educational, motivational and inspirational. I recommend Gordon and Jill for any group that could use a little of any of the above!

Gordon and Jill, thank you and may God bless you always!

Another Endorsement!!!

I love how these come when I am having an “off” day. The flu is happening in MY house and we ALL are sick!!!  But this latest praise really said it all:

Gordon’s presentation was not only inspirational, it was entertaining. His story alone is captivating and he tells it in a way that is both somber and humorous. His use of technology was fun and engaging, and he employs strong audience participation. At the end of the presentation we all came away with the foundation of a personal plan to move forward in our own lives whether professionally, personally or both. Gordon was funny, entertaining, serious, engaging – one of the best speakers we’ve had. I highly recommend him.

We were featured in AphasiaToolBox!

Gordon and Jill Viggiano is a couple who were on the fast track in life. Gordon was a successful sales executive, consultant and entrepreneur; Jill spent 19 years working in commercial real estate before retiring to become a full time mom.   All that changed when Gordon turned 51. On his 51st birthday, Gordon suffered a massive stroke with aphasia.

Gordon is now 7 years post-stroke and he is happy to report that he is getting better all the time. He is certainly not fully recovered from his stroke so this isn’t an “I did it and you can too” speech. Says Gordon: I am in the middle of my recovery and so my perspective is from “the trenches.”

In his presentation “My Brain Has A Hole In It,”he discusses this life changing experience and the lessons that have come along with it. his goal is to inspire people and help them see that good things can happen, even when one doesn’t think it is possible.

Despite his aphasia, Gordon is an inspirational and motivational speaker;  You can book Gordon for speaking engagements; visit his website: www.mybrainllc.com

Gordon’s wife, Jill, focused her skills and energy on his recovery and is now assisting him in his day-to-day needs as well as in his speaking career.  Jill’s book – Painful Blessing: A Story of Loss, Recovery, Hope and Faith, is about her spouse and caregiver experience, shedding light on the real life impact of acquired brain injury, and providing hope and encouragement to those facing significant challenges.

And Jill came in….

IMG_0376SECOND in the writing competition!

It sounds cliche but it was an honor to be nominated =)

We were at the Oregon Christian Writers Conference last week. I was going to write about the experience sooner, but my site revisions took longer than normal.

We began at the conference on Monday night and had dinner with the fellow writers. The following 3 mornings, we had a workshop with Dr. Randy Ingermanson on passive marketing–fascinating!

The take-aways from the conference:

  • Writers write because they like to write, not because they think they will get rich and famous.
  • Jill is an inspirational speaker who wrote a great book, not a writer who also speaks.  It turns out that is an important distinction.
