One more step…

IMG_0081_2We are getting closer to the book…and I still am doing speeches.  The latest was one the American Heart & Stroke Association set up.

I am in the process of changing my talk.  No, I am not talking about a major change, but I have some new material to put in.  I tried to put it in the last speech I did, but I wasn’t ready.  This time, I practiced the speech A LOT and I felt ready.

I told Jill going into the speech that one part was different…and I told her to see if she noticed the changes.  I messed up a little while I was going thru it, but I got it done. The changes really worked; it put me deeper into the story.

After the talk was over, I took her to Oodles of Noodles.  If you go to Oodles of Noodles,  DON’T get the Pad Thai….too many carrots and not enough flavor.

We are one step closer

Jill+Gordon-129Look, we now have a photo of the two of us!

I don’t want to say anything, but who do you think looks better?  OK, fine.  Jill looks FABULOUS!  I look at her…and I am so amazed she married me.  I feel blessed to have her.

Next, is the book cover. We will call David tomorrow and get that going.   Isn’t this exciting? Can you TELL I am excited about this?

We had a re-do on our web site.  Instead of being 2 sites, 2 languages, we are now 1 site (WORDPRESS).  And now I have the ability to host my book….and that is ALMOST complete.

Am I in focus?

cameraWhen we arrived at the studio, we were  greater by AJ.  I figured she would spend 15 minutes with me and then she would follow up with a few shots of Jill.  I couldn’t be further from the truth!

She said Jill should have her hair and make up done.  Since the makeup artist was there, we agreed. When she was done, Jill look amazing.  I can see why she recommended that.

Then, she asked me some questions and said she would take a few shot for the lightening. She went on for about 50 shots!  She said “now I am ready.”  She had me pose in the most awkward way, but told me the results looked fantastic.  After an hour of shooting me, she showed me the results.  It was fabulous!  I could’t believe how great I looked.

Then it was Jill’s turn.  Another 45 minutes getting both our photographs done. And then another 15 minutes shooting Jill alone.  When it was over, I was THRILLED to have to came back on Friday to see which ones we liked.  Jill and I were tired and we HAD to go.  In the next blog, I will show you the photo we selected.  I hope you like it!

Time to get working on the book…

bookIt is sort of staring at blank pages.  I know what needs to be done, but I am SCARED to get started.  But I guess I should relax…and get on with working.

OK, I am ready.  The progress we have made so far is pretty impressive.

Here is where we are:

  • We get our pictures taken tomorrow and will have them back in 3 days
  • When that is done, we can begin our cover (I can’t wait)
  • Along with the cover, I hope for two other pieces: a book mark and a mailer…all with the cover logo on it.  That sounds kind of neat, doesn’t it?
  • David is continuing to work on the internal layout and should be done this week

That’s what I am working on now.  I will see how the web site is progressing.

Web site moving forward…

nigelI found my guy. He is not located here; he is in Jamaica!

I talked to a bunch of people, mainly from India, and I needed to explain to them what I wanted.  I contacted each of them on Skype and I tried to explain what I wanted to do.  I told them “I had a stroke, so some of my words don’t come out correctly.”

Then I explain to them, the best I can, what I wanted. The problem: I couldn’t explain it.  How could they know what I wanted?  So when I was done, I asked each of them to explain it to me.  Everybody, EXCEPT Nigel, couldn’t answer!  They were all standup people, but they just couldn’t understand my broken English. Nigel, on the other hand, explained it perfectly.   I have my fingers crossed. I will let you know how it goes.

How Frustrating

shutterstock_116071201Did this ever happen to you?

I set up a meeting and put it on our calendars.  On my way to the meeting, Jill, my wife, always asks “what do want to accomplish in this meeting.”  I will always start…and attempt to finish.  Sometimes I do and sometimes I can’t get the words out.

It happened today on our way to the American Stroke Association. She saw me getting frustrated and she  asked in a different way.  The problem is…I still won’t be able to get the words out. I just sat there…in silence…trying…and trying…but not getting the words out.  I am SO happy I have her following me where ever I go.

I tell her all the time how proud I am to have her as my wife; she never lets me down. When I get quiet, she pitches in.  The problem is I don’t know when I will be silent.  This little bit of trivia keeps our marriage alive. I found the perfect wife!

Painful Blessing WINS!

shutterstock_122038105It is affirmative: Painful Blessing IS the name of Jill’s new book!  It was neck and neck for awhile, but Painful Blessings WON. BTW, this isn’t the cover yet.

What were the other names?

  • His Brain Has A Hole In It
  • A Painful Blessing
  • Our Painful Blessing
  • The Stroke
  • His Stroke

I hope you like the name!

What have we done?

  • Jill got a neighbor who agreed to host our FIRST author party
  • We have someone who will design the cover
  • Jill and I are getting cover photos in two weeks
  • David is continuing to work on the book

David still has to give it a few more hours, but what he did so far looks FANTASTIC!  I feel so honored to be involved with Jill’s project.

I still need to find someone who will add my book to the site. Wish me luck.
